About ServerCrate

Built on the belief that
backups should be private.

We built ServerCrate because we could not find a backup service that was both easy and genuinely private. So we built the one we wanted: encrypted offsite backup that stays simple, portable, and honest.

Why we exist

Most cloud backup services can read your files. Some scan them, some build around lock-in, and some bury real costs behind restore fees or bloated pricing models. We think that is broken.

We built ServerCrate so encrypted backup is simple enough for normal people and private enough that even we cannot read your data. Your encryption key is generated on your device, shown to you once, and never stored on our servers.

That gives you a clean offsite backup workflow built around privacy first, not privacy as an afterthought. It also means you are not trapped in a proprietary black box. ServerCrate is designed around Restic over SFTP, straightforward access, and backup workflows you can actually understand.

What we believe

Privacy is a right
Zero-knowledge is the foundation, not a feature sticker. We cannot read your files and built the platform that way on purpose.
No lock-in
Restic is open-source. SFTP is universal. Your backups should not depend on one vendor’s weird restore process or proprietary client forever.
Honest pricing
Flat monthly pricing. No egress charges. No surprise restore bill. What you see is what you pay.
Real support
When you email us, a person reads it. We keep things direct, small, and human instead of hiding behind layers of canned support sludge.

The technology

Your vault is powered by infrastructure we trust for real backup workloads, not just marketing screenshots. ServerCrate is built for encrypted offsite backup with clean restore paths and straightforward operation.

Restic
ZFS
LXC containers
SFTP / SSH
AES-256
Stripe
FastAPI
PostgreSQL
nginx

Each customer gets an isolated environment with a dedicated ZFS-backed storage path. The portal is built with practical security controls like CSRF protection, rate limiting, TOTP 2FA, and strong password hashing. The point is simple: private backup should also be operationally solid.

Who ServerCrate is for

ServerCrate is a good fit for people who want private offsite backups without Big Tech sprawl, restore fees, or vague cloud storage nonsense. That includes developers, homelab operators, Linux users, privacy-minded buyers, and small businesses that need clean encrypted offsite backup.

It is especially useful if you already want a straightforward Restic over SFTP workflow, or if you care more about privacy, portability, and predictable pricing than flashy consumer sync features.
