Why Los Angeles

A West Coast server that sits close to the Pacific.

Where a server lives decides how fast it feels. Every request your users make travels to the machine and back, and distance is the one part of that trip no amount of tuning removes. A server in Los Angeles is a short hop for visitors in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona, and it is well placed for the rest of the western United States.

Los Angeles is also one of the main landing points for undersea cables that cross the Pacific. That makes it a sensible middle ground if your audience is split between the US West Coast and Asia-Pacific: users in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia generally reach Los Angeles more directly than they reach data centers on the East Coast or in Europe. Actual round-trip times depend on the visitor's own provider and route, so we do not publish a latency table we would have to qualify. The best test is your own: deploy an SC-0 for $3, ping it from where your users are, and use the 30-day money-back guarantee if it does not fit.

Common uses we see for a Los Angeles VPS: game servers for West Coast and Pacific players, VPN endpoints, API backends for apps with users on both sides of the Pacific, staging boxes for teams in California, monitoring probes, and self-hosted tools you want close to home.

What every server includes.

KVM virtualization on NVMe

Each server is a full KVM virtual machine with its own kernel, not a container sharing ours. You can load kernel modules, run Docker or Podman, set up WireGuard, and tune sysctl the way you would on bare metal. Disks sit on NVMe storage, so package installs, database writes and container image pulls are not waiting on spinning drives.

Full root and your choice of OS

Choose Debian 12, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9 at checkout. You get root, and nothing on the server phones home to us or runs an agent you did not ask for beyond the standard guest agent used for console and power actions. Reinstall from the portal whenever you want a clean slate.

A dedicated IPv4 from SC-1

SC-1 and above come with a public IPv4 address that belongs to your server alone, with all ports open inbound and outbound. That matters for mail relays, game servers, VPNs and anything that listens on several ports. Reverse DNS is set on request. Read more on our dedicated IPv4 VPS page.

Browser VNC and serial console

If a firewall rule or a bad SSH config locks you out, open the VNC console or the serial console from the portal. Both connect to the virtual machine directly, so you can repair the network from the inside.

A network allowance you can plan around

SC-1 through SC-3 each get a shaped 50 Mbps port and 3 TB of transfer a month. We state it plainly because it is a dedicated allowance per server: it does not shrink when another customer gets busy. SC-0 gets 25 Mbps and 1 TB.

Post-quantum TLS on our edge

The portal, the server panel and our public edge negotiate the hybrid X25519MLKEM768 key exchange with modern browsers. That protects your logins and console sessions against traffic recorded today and decrypted later. Services you run on your own server use whatever TLS you configure. See how to verify it yourself and our security overview.

First five minutes on a new server.

Once the portal shows your server as running, these are the commands most people run first. The address and username are shown in the portal.

first login
$ssh debian@YOUR.SERVER.IP
$sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y
$sudo adduser deploy && sudo usermod -aG sudo deploy
$sudo apt install -y ufw && sudo ufw allow OpenSSH && sudo ufw enable
$curl -4 https://ifconfig.me # confirms the public address

A server is only as safe as its last good backup. Our backup vaults speak Restic over REST, encrypt on your server before anything leaves it, and live on separate storage from the VPS fleet. Walk through a full restore on our recovery drill page before you need one.

Los Angeles VPS questions.

Where exactly are the servers?

Los Angeles, California, on hardware our team owns and operates. We run one location. If you need a second region for redundancy, pair a server here with a provider elsewhere and keep your backups in a separate vault.

Do I get my own IP address?

SC-1, SC-2 and SC-3 include a dedicated public IPv4 with every port open in both directions. SC-0 is our budget plan and uses a shared IPv4 with SSH plus 20 forwarded ports, which suits small projects that only need a few inbound services.

Is IPv6 included?

IPv6 is not available yet. Every plan is IPv4 today, and we will update this page when that changes.

What does the 50 Mbps port mean in practice?

Each SC-1, SC-2 and SC-3 server has its own shaped 50 Mbps port and 3 TB of monthly transfer. It is a predictable dedicated allowance rather than a burst figure that collapses when neighbors get busy. SC-0 has a 25 Mbps port and 1 TB of transfer.

Which operating systems can I install?

Debian 12, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux 9 and Rocky Linux 9. You pick one at checkout and can reinstall from the portal later.

What if I lock myself out?

Open the browser VNC console or the serial console from the portal. Both reach the server without its network, so a broken firewall rule or SSH config is a fix, not a support ticket.

Will my renewal price go up?

No. Renewal is always the price you signed up at. Yearly billing gives you 12 months for the price of 10, and every plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Still deciding? Compare every server option on cloud servers, or start with an SC-1 for $7 a month.
