ServerCrate / Tools / Backup cost calculator

The real cost of offsite backup,
including the fees on the second page.

Enter how much you store and how much you restore. We price it against BorgBase, rsync.net, Backblaze B2, Wasabi and AWS S3 using each provider's own published prices, minimums and download fees, including where we are not the cheapest.

Prices checked October 3, 2026 on each provider's own pricing page (linked). USD, before tax. Object storage rows leave out API request fees and assume you run and secure the backup software yourself. Annual ServerCrate pricing is two months free.

What the price does not show

Raw storage is the cheapest part of a backup. The expensive part is finding out, on the day you need it, that the backup never worked. Object storage gives you a bucket: the client, the encryption keys, the retention, the ransomware protection and the restore testing are all yours to build and watch.

A ServerCrate vault is a private restic repository on its own ZFS dataset. Your data is encrypted on your machine before it leaves, so we hold ciphertext only. The backup key is append-only, every vault keeps up to 7 days of server-side snapshots no key can touch, and we restore from our own vaults on a schedule to prove the pipeline works end to end. Restores and downloads are never billed.

Where another provider is cheaper for your size, this table says so. If raw terabytes at the lowest price is the goal, Backblaze B2 or the rsync.net restic tier are hard to beat. If the goal is backups you never have to wonder about, start with a free 10 GB vault or see every plan. Want to size your retention first? Try the retention calculator.
